Identifying Components of Communication in Happenings Around

 

Sender: The man in the left 

Receiver: The man in the right

Purpose: To explain the yarn winding process.

Medium: Speech and Action

Effectiveness: Successful as the person understood the process after the conversation.

Scope: The gap between the indigenous livelihoods and the urban often unaware population.





Sender: The rider and the two other people on the bullock cart

Receiver: The driver of the car behind

Purpose: To tell the driver to go ahead.

Effectiveness: Successful, as the car passes after that.

Medium: Looks (Nonverbal)

Scope: Commute in rural India 


 




Sender: The lady in the saree 

Receiver: The photographer

Purpose: To take her opinion if she likes the picture of hers taken by the photographer

Effectiveness: Successful, as she smiles and shows her satisfaction with the photo.

Medium: Facial expression

Scope: Pictures might be normal for the millennials but they can be very special for someone living a very different life. 





Sender: The kid

Receiver: His father there

Purpose: To show the bird in the book which his father imitated the sound of.

Medium: Hand gesture

Effectiveness: Successful as his father pays attention to what the kid points out to.

Scope: Having healthy parent-child relationship can lead to happy learning experiences.





Sender: The head of the protest with the mic

Receiver: The government authorities in the collector’s office where the protest is happening and also the crowd 

Purpose: To bring notice of the government authorities to the lack of mobile connectivity. 

Medium: Speech and Gestures

Effectiveness: Successful as the protest peacefully continued for the planned time without the authorities countering.

Scope: How effective are protests especially against government authority?






Sender: The artist (Sonakshi)

Receiver: The viewer of the poster

Purpose: To remind people to relax.

Medium: Visual art

Effectiveness: Successful as the poster tells people, “Don’t worry” and the reference from the film Lion King makes it very effective. 

Scope: The need to take care of our mental health along with our fast paced lives. 





Sender: The protagonist at the center of the stage 

Receiver: The audience of the play

Purpose: To communicate the character’s emotions after he commits a murder.

Medium: Body language and action

Effectiveness: Successful, as the audience felt the dark emotions he was going through.

Scope: The role of theatre in bringing out one’s emotions. 





Sender: Wing commander GB Athri

Receiver: The public there

Purpose: To keep the place clean and sacred

Medium: Inscription

Effectiveness: Unsuccessful as the place is littered and most people don't even realise there is a war memorial there. 

Scope: The state of less known and poorly maintained war memorials in India.






Sender: The boy held by the girl

Receiver: The girl

Purpose: To let her know that he is uncomfortable and wants to be free.

Medium: Body posture

Effectiveness: Unsuccessful as she is unable to understand the indication.

Scope: Stopping children from what they want to do makes them uncomfortable.




Sender: The lady

Receiver: The people sitting

Purpose: To draw the attention of the people sitting

Medium: Looks

Effectiveness: Unsuccessful as they weren’t able to notice her looks

Scope: The magnification of joys which otherwise feel little.
